Typewritten manuscript pages and reading glasses on a writer's desk

Author development and independent publishing

Your Book. Your Rights. Your Royalties.

RFP Publishing is an independent publishing business dedicated to helping authors develop, produce, and bring their books to readers. We provide the editorial expertise, book production, and publishing guidance needed to move a manuscript from an idea to a finished book.

Our current approach is author-directed publishing. You retain ownership of your work, control your publishing accounts, and receive your royalties directly. We provide the professional support and practical guidance to help you publish independently.

You remain the author and owner of your work, and you keep your rights and your royalties.

01 / WHO WE ARE

Publishing Today. Building for Tomorrow.

RFP Publishing was founded on the belief that a good book deserves more than a finished manuscript. It deserves thoughtful development, professional production, and a clear path to readers.

Today: Author-Directed Publishing

We work directly with authors who want to publish independently. Through writing coaching, manuscript development, book production, and publishing guidance, we help writers navigate the process while maintaining ownership and control of their work.

Our Vision: An Independent Publishing Imprint

Our long-term vision includes publishing a select number of exceptional books under the RFP Publishing name. In that model, RFP would select manuscripts, invest in their development and production, and compensate authors through royalties under publishing agreements.

This imprint is a future initiative and is not currently accepting manuscript submissions.

One purpose. Two approaches. A commitment to stronger books.

Most writers do not begin with certainty.

They begin with an idea, an unfinished chapter, a short story, or a quiet question about whether they are “good enough.” RFP does not promise fame or sales. The work is developing the writer: skill, confidence, discipline, and craftsmanship, whether you are starting, revising, or preparing a finished manuscript for readers.

What We Believe

01Writing is a craft.
02Craft improves through practice.
03Talent may influence where you begin, but perseverance determines how far you grow.
04Revision is not failure.
05Honest feedback matters. Encouragement without truth is not helpful.
06The writer owns the work. RFP does not acquire publishing rights to client manuscripts.
07Clients publish through their own accounts and receive their royalties directly. RFP receives no share of client royalties.
08Every quote is itemized with defined deliverables. RFP does not sell marketing packages and does not guarantee book sales.
03 / SERVICE PATHWAYS

Three ways to work together

Production, Development, and In Progress are separate pathways. Many authors move through more than one, and each is quoted on its own.

01

Production

Authors with completed manuscripts ready for professional production.

Professional copyediting, cover design, print and ebook formatting, publishing-platform assistance, proof review, and final-file handover.

Typical investment: $2,800–$3,600 for a 60,000–80,000-word novel

Explore Production

02

Development

Authors with a completed draft requiring structural or story-level development.

Manuscript assessment, editorial recommendations, revision consultation, follow-up evaluation, and Production once the manuscript is ready.

Typical investment: $4,500–$6,000 for a 60,000–80,000-word novel

Explore Development

03

In Progress

Authors developing a book idea or writing an unfinished manuscript.

A fixed six-month coaching engagement with eight sessions, developmental feedback on up to 30,000 words, a story plan, and writing milestones. Development and Production are separate services.

Typical investment: $2,400 for a fixed six-month engagement

Explore In Progress

Final quotes depend on manuscript length, condition, complexity, and the services required. Authors are never required to purchase services they do not need.

04 / INDIVIDUAL SERVICES

One service at a time

Authors may request individual services without purchasing a complete tier. If you already know what you need, start here.

Who This Is For

RFP assesses manuscript readiness and project fit before quoting. This work suits writers who are:

  • — Passionate about their ideas
  • — Willing to learn and practice
  • — Open to constructive criticism
  • — Willing to revise
  • — Serious about finishing
  • — Willing to assess manuscript readiness before a quote

Who This May Not Be For

It may not be the right fit for writers who:

  • — Only want praise
  • — Refuse to revise
  • — Expect someone else to write the book
  • — Want guaranteed sales or a marketing package
  • — Are unwilling to work consistently
05 / PRICING

A scope that fits the work

No two projects need exactly the same level of involvement. Pricing is set only after understanding the manuscript, goals, and kind of support that would be useful.

Production$2,800–$3,600 for a 60,000–80,000-word novel
Development$4,500–$6,000 for a 60,000–80,000-word novel
In Progress$2,400 for a fixed six-month engagement

Production, Development, and In Progress are separate services and can be combined or taken in sequence. Every quote is itemized with defined deliverables, and readiness and fit are assessed before either side commits.

07 / FIRST CONVERSATION

Start With a Conversation

Not every writer needs the same kind of help. Some need accountability. Some need craft development. Some need an honest manuscript assessment. Others simply need help deciding what comes next. The first conversation is designed to understand your project, goals, experience, and where you feel stuck.
